Welcome to the Special Limited Edition offer of Curves of Steel.
Coachbuilt Press is proud to offer this special limited edition of Curves of Steel, together with a limited edition Michael Furman print of the extraordinary 1937 Peugeot Darl'mat Coupé.
Out of print since its museum edition sold out in 2007, Curves of Steel is now available in bookstores for the first time ever in response to popular demand. This new edition has been upgraded from its premium Phoenix Art Museum catalog publication to Coachbuilt Press's even higher standards for its books offered to the public.
We are offering the limited edition of Curves of Steel together with a limited edition fine art print so that enthusiasts can enjoy owning a unique volume and print, treasured for years to come, that will grow in value. The limited edition is hardbound in leather and includes a specially bound-in heritage page that certifies the book's standing as a limited edition volume. The heritage page in each limited edition copy is individually signed and numbered by editor and historian Jonathan Stein and photographer Michael Furman.
Each copy of the limited edition is accompanied by a stunning 18 x 12 fine art print of the dramatic 1937 Peugeot Darl'mat Coupé. This print is hand made on heavy (308gsm) Hahnemule Photo Rag paper, and is also signed and numbered by Michael Furman. The number on each print will match the number of the book it accompanies. The limited edition print is a $350 value at issue.
Curves of Steel is also now available as a standard hardbound edition for $75.
The Curves of Steel Exhibition
In April of 2007, The Phoenix Art Museum presented 22 streamlined American and European automobiles that demonstrated the intersection of style and aerodynamics in 20th century automotive design. The exhibition was widely celebrated in the media, from The New York Times to Architectural Digest to CBS Sunday Morning, and in virtually every leading automobile magazine.
Coachbuilt Press was honored to be selected by the Phoenix Art Museum to create Curves of Steel as the exhibition's premium catalog. The exhibition tracked the evolution of the streamlined shape from the 1930s to the 1990s. Edited and co-written by historian Jonathan A. Stein, Curves of Steel includes essays from many of the world's great automotive writers including Beverly Rae Kimes, Ken Gross, Phil Patton, Richard Adatto and Diana Meredith. Each car is presented with historic images and elegant, modern photographs by Michael Furman.
Praise for Curves of Steel from the Media
When it was first issued, Curves of Steel was widely celebrated as a landmark automotive fine art and historical volume. Architectural Digest said Curves of Steel is filled with sensuous photographs, and Classical Drives.com said, Wow! What a lineup of automotive historians and superb writers. Will rank among the most beautiful examples of automobile photography ever printed. Auto Aficionado wrote that Curves of Steel underscores the Michael Furman consultant touch in assembling the finest cars for the most-celebrated exhibitions, and RM Magazine stated, Simply a must have for any enthusiast.
